Room: B0.10
Course Overview
This short course introduces participants to the fundamentals of working with spatial data in R. The course will cover essential tools and techniques for handling different types of spatial objects, including polygons (e.g., regional boundaries), lines (roads), map layers, satellite imagery, and rasters.
Participants will also learn about data sources, with an emphasis on freely available spatial datasets. All concepts will be demonstrated using clear, hands-on examples, highlighting the potential applications of spatial data in more advanced analytical contexts.
Basic proficiency in R is assumed.

Notes
While the course primarily uses free data sources, a few examples rely on commercial map services (Stadia Maps and Here Maps) that require registration and an API key. If you do not have an API key, the corresponding datasets are already provided in the intermediate outputs folder.
